No satellite shot this time -- I'm not quite certain where it is.
My original plan today was to get up early (6:00), wander my neighbourhood until 8ish, then return to the hotel for breakfast and a shower before waiting for Hong to call me about visiting the art gallery this afternoon. But I slept in until 8, which was lucky becuase Hong phoned me at 8:00 to say Yang and her father could take me to the art gallery this morning (instead of Hong this afternoon). As well, Yang needed to use my hotel internet connection to submit a scholarship form. So I'm glad I wasn't energetic!
The art gallery was nice. I didn't really need a guide (art is art) but it was nice having people who understand art to explain things to you. Took a fair number of pictures, but no idea about quality (no flash, no tripod). I saw pictures I wanted, but (a) not for sale, (b) too expensive even if they were, and (c) my house would need 20 foot ceilings just to fit them, higher to look good :-)
Finally figureout out why construction sites look odd: no plywood. Where we would use plywood they use steel sheets or rolls of cloth. (And where we would use metal poles (such as supporting trees) they use wood poles.) Yet another difference. I wonder how many more I'm missing? I'll have to ask Jing when she gets back to Beijing: she has an excellent eye for details.
